2009 Volvo S60 Concept as best car design

Volvo announced today that it has teamed up with Swedish glassworks Orrefors to work on a new concept car that will preview the next generation Volvo S60. The new 2009 Volvo S60 concept car will be premiered at the Detroit international motor show in January 2009.
The 2009 Volvo S60 concept will feature a floating center stack of hand-made Orrefors crystal, of which the company says its the most unusual and labor-intensive objects in its 110-year history. The crystal center stack on the 2009 Volvo S60 concept, however, will not be transported on the production model.
The crystal center console of the 2009 Volvo S60 concept runs from the front all the way to the rear seat backrest.
One of the best parts of auto show season is the incredibly innovative concept vehicles that give us a glimpse of what an automaker’s future may hold. At the 2009 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Volvo will introduce the 2009 S60 concept. As a teaser this week, Volvo released two images of its impending concept, and despite the shadowed sketch, the new S60 Concept’s curvaceous bodylines are readily visible. The original S60, which was introduced in 2000, helped bring forth a design renaissance at Volvo by replacing the old boxy look with more curvy and stylish designs.
From the shadowed sketch and Volvo’s own description of the S60 Concept, the car will favor a four-door coupe design and should compete directly against the Volkswagen CC. Many design cues, including the front end and profile bodylines, seem to be inspired by Volvo’s all-new crossover, the 2009 XC60. Volvo refers to the crease along the side as a “double wave,” and it helps give the car a strong visual presence when viewed in profile.
